Nuwara Eliya is the cold one: tea estates, mist that sits in the valleys until mid-morning, and colonial buildings that look nothing like the rest of the island. Bring something warm — people never believe me until they arrive.
I'm Yehen Fernando, a wedding and couple photographer based in Kandy. I shoot couple sessions, surprise proposals and pre-shoots in Nuwara Eliya and across Sri Lanka. Traveller sessions start at USD 180; wedding collections at LKR 125,000. Travel to Nuwara Eliya: Quoted — ask me and I will work it out from where you are staying.

Early morning
Post office, the pink-and-white colonial buildings, hedges and gardens. Strange and lovely and very un-Sri Lankan.
Any time, best when overcast
Pull-ins with the whole valley below, usually with mist moving through it.

Nuwara Eliya
It is the reason to come. Flat white mist behind a couple is some of the most atmospheric light you can get, and it hides a multitude of untidy backgrounds.
Cold enough for a jacket between the frames, especially at dawn. It catches almost every visitor out.
